Grand Hank Comes To The Stearne School

Scientist ‘Grand Hank’ inspires Philly students to delve deeper into the world of STEM careers

On February 6, 2024, Allen M. Stearne 8th-graders had the unique opportunity to learn from Tyraine Ragsdale, better known as “Master Scientist Grand Hank.” Through his high-energy, interactive science show, he turned abstract concepts into eye-opening experiments that kept students on the edge of their seats. From his dramatic “bloody hand” demonstration to experiments with vacuums and pressure, Grand Hank showed that science is not only powerful, but also fun and accessible to everyone. His message was clear: young people can see themselves as future scientists, engineers, and innovators.

This exciting event also connects to Stearne’s larger commitment to STEM education. With new investments in our maker space and hands-on learning opportunities across grade levels, we are dedicated to sparking curiosity and preparing students for the careers of the future. Grand Hank’s visit reinforced that vision, showing our scholars that the skills they build in the classroom today can open doors to limitless possibilities tomorrow.
